Today I want to share with you a story about one of our supporters, Kimberly & her husband Sean.
Kimberly was diagnosed with primary Triple negative breast cancer in October 2018 when she was 40 years old. Just 2 months after marrying her best friend Sean. Kimberly went through chemotherapy, surgery and radiotherapy. In February 2020 just 4 month later she was diagnosed with secondary metastatic breast cancer in her lymph nodes (neck) after having radiotherapy on the area she has been stable since.
Kimberly was asked if she would like to take part in the Fighting to be Heard Campaign. Thinking it could be a bit of fun and something to take her mind of her secondary breast cancer, she thought it couldn’t hurt! Being involved in this campaign became so much more for Kimberly who loved meeting all the women who like her are living with the unknown. Being part of the photoshoot was an honour for Kimberly, and as an added bonus she met some amazing ladies too. Sadly some of these ladies are no longer with us.
When I asked Kimberly why having a secondary breast cancer charity matters, she told me “The charity is so important not only to me, but everyone else going through the same, I hope we can raise awareness around secondary breast cancer, I have triple negative cancer so my options are fewer, however i am stable at present. Not a lot of people understand what secondary breast cancer is so raising awareness is so important.”
Kimberly and Sean are such incredible supporters of the work we do and raising awareness on our behalf. Not only do they wave the Make 2nds Count flag, they have done an amazing amount of fundraising, their support means we can continue to give hope to those affected by secondary breast cancer, raise awareness and fund research.
Kimberly and Sean have hosted a number of bake sales and recently Sean ran the Great North Run in aid of Make 2nds Count. Well done, Sean!
Thank you so much to Kimberly & Sean for your hard work and support of Make 2nds Count.
