Code of Conduct

It is the responsibility of everyone at Make 2nds Count to ensure their behaviour is consistent with this code in any face-to-face and online programmes and activities. 

In order to achieve our aim of supporting those affected by secondary breast cancer whilst keeping them safe, we expect you to read this code and follow it. 

If you are unclear or unsure about any of the requirements, speak to your Manager or, if you are a volunteer, your Make 2nds Count point of contact.

Code of behaviour 

  • You must treat everyone with respect and dignity, ensuring that those affected by secondary breast cancer are at the heart of what we do. 

  • You must act in the best interests of those affected by secondary breast cancer in line with any recommendations and guidelines set by the Make 2nds Count Board of Trustees.

  • You must maintain professional boundaries when working at all times, even during difficult circumstances. 

  • You must plan all activities and sessions, and record these appropriately.

  • You must create safe environments where everyone feels supported to raise any concerns they may have. 

  • You must be open and transparent in all forms of communication.

  • You must report any concerns, allegations, or suspicions of abuse.

  • You must abide by all local and national laws that protect Vulnerable Adults, Children and Young People. 

  • You must report any concerns relating to the safety and wellbeing of a Vulnerable Adults, Child or Young Person.

  • You must not act in any way which could lead to the harm, exploitation or abuse of a Vulnerable Adult, Child or Young Person.

  • You must not carry out your duties for Make 2nds Count whilst under the influence of alcohol or drugs. 

  • You must not act or behave in a way that puts individuals into unsafe situations. 

  • You must not trivialise abuse or let it go unreported. 

  • You must not rely on the reputation of Make 2nds Count, or your position, to protect you from any complaints or allegations.

If you are unsure about any issues you should always check with your Charity point of contact.

Personal property: Make 2nds Count does not accept any responsibility for loss or damage to personal property. Personal belongings should be kept to a minimum.

What to wear: Please wear comfortable, appropriate clothing (no offensive slogans etc). For some roles you will be issued with a Make 2nds Count t-shirt which should be worn whilst volunteering.

Mobile telephones/other devices: Turn your phone to silent when working. Under no circumstances should any information or photographs relating to people, staff or volunteers be posted on social networking sites without media consent from Make 2nds Count.

Data protection

It is essential that people can be confident that their personal information is kept safe and secure and that people maintain the privacy of the individual, whilst sharing information to deliver better services. 

Make 2nds Count Privacy Policy is available online

All information held about a person is regarded as confidential. This includes: demographic/administrative data, e.g. name, address, postcode, telephone number, emergency contact details.

Some examples of a breach of confidentiality include:

  • Mentioning to friends or relatives that someone you know has donated to Make 2nds Count

  • Mentioning to friends or relatives that someone you know has requested information from Make 2nds Count

Everyone should seek to ensure that protection of a person’s confidentiality is built into all of Make 2nds Count services. Any breach of confidentiality will result in disciplinary action, which may lead to staff, volunteers, sessional staff being removed from their position. Everything practicable will be done to ensure the health, safety and welfare of all staff and volunteers whilst undertaking activities on behalf of Make 2nds Count.

What to do when:

You are made aware of a complaint, concern or allegation about a member of staff or volunteer.

If you are a member of staff, you must report safeguarding concerns directly to your line manager. 

If you are a volunteer, you must report any safeguarding concerns to your point of contact at Make 2nds Count, they will then escalate this to their line manager. 

However, if you are unable to get in contact with your Make 2nds Count point of contact, or your concern relates to inappropriate or unsafe behaviour by a Make 2nds Count member of staff or volunteer, contact the charity's Executive Director on:
