Sing-along for Secondary Breast Cancer Awareness
Living with secondary (metastatic) breast cancer can be incredibly isolating, affecting every aspect of life, both physically and mentally. At Make 2nds Count we understand these challenges and are dedicated to supporting those facing this difficult journey. This year, we're launching our 2024 Breast Cancer Awareness Month (BCAM) campaign, '1,000 Truths,' a heartfelt initiative designed to shine a light on the real and daily impact of secondary breast cancer in the UK.
As Mhairi Campbell, a 35-year-old from Glasgow living with secondary breast cancer poignantly shared, “It can consume every single part of your day, physically and mentally. My nurse once told me there was no point in her doing her job if I was going to let that happen. Best advice I have ever had. You’re still the person with passions and dreams before cancer and it’s important to remember that.”
Every October, BCAM serves as a vital focal point for us to raise awareness about the needs and challenges faced by patients, and to highlight the urgent need for greater investment in research dedicated to secondary breast cancer. This year, we're taking our efforts a step further with an exciting new event designed to bring our community together in a powerful, joyful way.
To mark the end of BCAM and raise much-needed funds, Make 2nds Count trustees Joanne Lacey and John Ward have teamed up to organise a spectacular fundraising event. On Saturday, November 2nd, for one night only, we're hosting the ultimate sing-along Massaoke event in Glasgow. Featuring the incredible party band Rockstar Weekend, known for their electrifying performances at Glastonbury, Latitude, and the Edinburgh Fringe, this promises to be a night to remember.
Why Massaoke? As Joanne Lacey explains, “Taking part in Massaoke Greatest Hits is the simple joy of singing your heart out, where vulnerabilities disappear into the crowd. The uplifting endorphin release is empowering which is why it’s such a good fit for raising funds for Make 2nds Count.”
John Ward adds, “With the cost-of-living crisis making fundraising more challenging for all charities, we hope the new event will raise vital funds for Make 2nds Count and give everyone who buys a ticket and supports raising awareness of secondary breast cancer a fantastic night out.”
This event is not just about raising funds; it’s about bringing our community together and creating an atmosphere where everyone can feel uplifted.
We invite you to join us in Glasgow on November 2nd at Drgyate and raise your voice through song and support this crucial cause. Together, we can make a difference and ensure that no one faces secondary breast cancer alone.
If any companies are interested in becoming official supporters of this event, please reach out to Ruth Harris at ruth.harris@make2ndscount.co.uk for more details.
Let’s come together, shine a light on secondary breast cancer, and raise our voices – and much-needed funds – for those who need it most.
With hope and loud singing, WE CAN MAKE 2NDS COUNT!
