This (PhD) research aims to explore how healthcare communication influences the experiences of women living with metastatic (secondary) breast cancer. Communication with healthcare professionals plays a vital role throughout the cancer journey, affecting how women understand their diagnosis, treatment options, prognosis, and ongoing support. Research suggests that women may experience challenges including inconsistent information, unmet emotional needs, and limited involvement in decision-making.

We are seeking to recruit women with lived experience of metastatic breast cancer to join a Patient and Public Involvement (PPI) advisory group. Advisory group members will work alongside the research team to help shape and inform the study. This may include reviewing study materials, contributing to the development of interview questions and topic guides, providing feedback on communication resources, and helping ensure that the research reflects the realities of living with metastatic breast cancer. All involvement will be via online Teams platform and the maximum commitment will be one hour per month. Your lived experience and insights are highly valued. By contributing in an advisory capacity, you will help ensure that the research remains relevant, appropriate, and responsive to the needs, priorities, and experiences of women living with metastatic breast cancer. Your involvement will help strengthen the quality of the research and ensure that the ‘lived experience’ voice remains central throughout the study. The findings will contribute to a greater understanding of healthcare communication in metastatic breast cancer care and help inform future research, educational resources, and communication practices aimed at improving person-centred care and support for women living with metastatic breast cancer.
