Move More ANGUSalive provides free support to people living with or beyond cancer to become physically active, both before, during, and after their treatment. We support people to find an activity that’s right for them, with individually tailored health behaviour change support to continue to be active. Move More ANGUSalive has developed cancer specific opportunities including Gentle Movement, walking, and circuit-based classes. Circuit-based classes are delivered by Level 4 CanRehab qualified fitness instructors. The health walks and Gentle Movement classes are delivered by Macmillan trained volunteers. Activities and support are available at various venues across Angus.

The Macmillan Welfare Rights Service provides benefit advice, help with the claiming process, assistance and representation at appeals as well as money advice. It is an established service offering direct assistance with welfare benefits, Macmillan grants and disabled blue badge parking permits. The service aims to provide equal access to good quality information and a range of services that provide holistic support to people affected by cancer, their carers and relatives.

Most of our clients are referred by the Macmillan Team here in Fort William, however, you can just call us direct on 01397 709095. We work in partnership with Macmillan Cancer Support to offer income maximisation advice, casework and representation to anyone affected by cancer in Lochaber. Our Macmillan Benefits Adviser will establish your eligibility for, and advise you accordingly on, a wide range of benefits. It is important to remember that your circumstances may change more than once during your treatment so it is beneficial to get advice in advance so that you know what to expect and can plan accordingly. This applies to those who work as well as those who are employed and those who aren’t employed or have had to give up work due to ill-health. Any adult and their family can access this service either directly by calling the contact number or via any health professionals involved. We can visit at home in the community or in the hospital.

If you are living with cancer in Inverclyde, Inverclyde Leisure in partnership with Macmillan Cancer Support offer a free programme to help you get and stay active. Our activities are suitable for everyone, regardless of where you are in your cancer journey. We’ll ask you a few questions, listen to what you have to say and then discuss ways of making physical activity a part of your life. And it doesn’t matter if you’ve never been a particularly active person. We run classes for all abilities and even activities such as gardening or walking could be part of your programme. Taking part in physical activity during and after cancer treatment can play a huge part in enabling you to take back control. It can help you prevent and manage some of the effects of treatment, such as fatigue, depression and risks to your heart health. And lots of people tell us that it helps them to feel more like their old self. What’s more, Move More Inverclyde classes are open to everyone, whether you’re going through treatment or have long finished. You can even bring along a friend or relative to some activities. And they’re a great place to meet others with similar experiences and to share your support, as well as to help one another stay positive and keep active.

Based at Queen’s Medical Centre, the Macmillan Cancer Information and Support Service provides a confidential drop in service for anyone affected by cancer including patients, relatives and healthcare professionals. If you or someone close to you is affected by cancer we can provide emotional support, benefit and financial advice including applying for benefits and accessing grants. We can also provide information about cancer treatments and managing the side effects of cancer treatments, travel insurance and holiday information, information and support when talking to loved ones and much more. The Centre has a group room which can be booked and used free of charge for groups affected by cancer. The Service also has access to a Macmillan Benefits Clinic, Hair Loss Clinic, Cancer Support Groups and Carers Drop-in Sessions. Provides emotional support and signposting to local, regional and national services.

The Macmillan Benefits Advice Service provides advice and assistance with benefit entitlement for Oldham residents and people having treatment in Oldham, along with their families and carers. We provide a free and confidential specialist benefits advice service to people living with cancer and to their families and carers. We advise and assist people with their benefit entitlement including help with form completion, advocacy and representation at tribunals. We can also provide advice regarding debt and housing issues. Our aim is to strive to ensure that people affected by cancer receive the support and help they need. We provide telephone advice, appointments and home visits (Oldham residents only). We also run an outreach session at the Royal Oldham Hospital.

The service is staffed by two Macmillan professionals and supported by trained volunteers. They are able to offer cancer information materials, Support, local information, signposting to other services to anyone who has been affected by cancer, in a safe and confidential environment. If you have a cancer diagnosis, are worried about cancer or are visiting on behalf of a friend or relative we can provide information that covers the cancer journey, including pre-diagnosis, diagnosis and treatments, living with and beyond cancer, palliative and end of life care. We can refer to the Macmillan Welfare Rights Service, complementary therapies, counselling and signpost to other local agencies and support groups. If you need someone to talk to we can give you the time you need to listen. Being affected by a cancer diagnosis can affect so many areas of your life and we are here to support you.

The Macmillan Money and Work team are advisers with specialist knowledge of all the financial benefits available to people living with and beyond cancer, their relatives and carers. We can offer you up-to-date, confidential advice and can support you by working out and accessing the financial help you may be entitled to. We can also help you to apply for a Macmillan Grant. Our local team are happy to support you with all things benefits-related and if you have other money worries or work-related issues they can refer you to our telephone support line where a team of specialists can help you with queries at work or about your mortgage, pensions, Insurance and energy advice.
