The Macmillan Welfare Rights Service work in co-operation with Macmillan Cancer Support to provide advice on benefits and debt options for people in Angus, living with and/or affected by cancer. This service provides free, independent and confidential advise on a range of issues including: ensuring income is maximised by checking entitlement to benefits and tax credits assisting with benefit and Macmillan Grant application forms, resolving benefit disputes and assisting with any appeal work, providing debt advice and advising on entitlement to other support or services. The service can, if necessary, also provide training and informal talks to local groups, voluntary organisations in issues relating to benefits. The service can, if necessary, carry out home visits or see someone at a more local council office.

The drop-in information centre is currently only open and available for patients attending the Cancer Centre for treatment or for a prearranged outpatient appointment. The information nurses are also providing a telephone service and this is open to anyone affected by cancer; patients, the friends or family of someone with cancer or health professionals.
The team also provides information on different cancers and treatments as well as the psychological, social and financial impact of cancer. Topics we often get asked about include: work issues, benefits entitlement, treatment and side effects, diet and exercise, holiday insurance, talking to children about a cancer diagnosis, concerns about life after cancer treatment, transport – including blue badges.

For clinical concerns, the support worker will have access to the healthcare team who are treating you and can connect you to this team if required.

We provide emotional, physical and practical support to people affected by cancer, whether it is the patient themselves, their families or carers. This can be following diagnosis, after treatment, or anytime after suffering long-term consequences of cancer and its treatment. People can either be referred by a healthcare professional, or they can self-refer to the service. We offer a Holistic Needs Assessment (HNA) in the community (usually the patient’s home) and following this self assessment a plan is developed by the patient and nurse to identify needs and provide a range of resources to meet these needs. This may include: being an ongoing point of contact for information and support. Information about self management. Signposting / referral to other services. Information on local Health & Wellbeing Events, Coffee drop-ins, etc. Emotional support. Link to hospital team.

Move More ANGUSalive provides free support to people living with or beyond cancer to become physically active, both before, during, and after their treatment. We support people to find an activity that’s right for them, with individually tailored health behaviour change support to continue to be active. Move More ANGUSalive has developed cancer specific opportunities including Gentle Movement, walking, and circuit-based classes. Circuit-based classes are delivered by Level 4 CanRehab qualified fitness instructors. The health walks and Gentle Movement classes are delivered by Macmillan trained volunteers. Activities and support are available at various venues across Angus.

Living with cancer can be tough on your finances. You might not be able to earn in the same way. You’ll probably spend more on everyday costs like heating and getting around. And it’s hard knowing how to plan ahead. Too often, money worries just get out of control. But we’re here to help. Our benefits advisers can support you by working out the financial help you may be entitled to and helping you to access it. They have specialist knowledge of welfare benefits, tax credits and grants and can offer you up-to-date, invaluable advice. Working in partnership with Citizens Advice Birmingham, we provide free face-to-face benefits advice to people affected by cancer, including carers and families, at hospitals and other locations across Birmingham and Solihull. We can provide advice on what benefits you could claim if you cannot work, if you are experiencing health problems as a result of treatment, or if you have a low or reduced income; help you with applications for benefit – making calls or filling in forms; help you apply for one-off grants, eg to help with fuel costs, to pay for a convalescent holiday or a new household item; assist you with appealing against decisions on your benefit entitlement; refer you to other support with debt, housing, employment and pensions. The Welfare Benefits Service at the Macmillan Horizon Centre in Brighton has been funded by Macmillan Cancer Support, advice is supplied by different agencies Brighton and Hove Citizens Advice, Central and South Sussex Citizens Advice, Brighton Housing Trust and Money Advice Plus. The service provides a free, confidential welfare benefits advice service to people affected by cancer and their carers, throughout Sussex. We are able to provide advice by appointment either at the Horizon Centre or over the telephone. We can advise and assist with applications for all welfare benefits, including: Attendance Allowance and Personal Independence Payment, Employment and Support Allowance, Housing Benefit, Council Tax Benefit, Tax Credits, Pension Credit, etc. Benefits Appeals and Reviews, applying for a Blue Badge and grants including Macmillan Grants. Referral for debt problems, information and signposting for other issues such as wills, pensions, housing, or employment problems.

Bristol Buddies provides people affected by cancer with practical help around the home and local area during and post their cancer treatment. A volunteer will provide short to medium term support, visiting once a week for a couple of hours for up to 12 weeks. They can help with the everyday tasks that we take for granted when we are fit and healthy, but can become difficult when you are dealing with the side effects of your cancer treatment. So whether it is doing some light cleaning, keeping the garden under control, doing the shopping, or just sitting and having a chat, we are happy to help. The service is for people with a cancer diagnosis across all cancer sites.

The Macmillan Welfare Rights Service based at Velindre Cancer Centre is still open and providing a free confidential advice service. We still offer a full welfare benefits advice service. Assisting with benefit applications, grant applications and advising on benefit entitlements. We provide full representation, assisting with benefit mandatory reconsideration and Appeals. However due to the Coronavirus restrictions we are unable to meet face-to-face, our support with be provided over the phone and in writing. We are still here to provide a confidential service for anyone affected by a cancer diagnosis who needs advice and support in accessing their full benefit entitlements.

We provide free information and confidential support to people living with cancer, as well as their carers, friends and family. We are able to provide: Leaflets and booklets on all aspects of living with and beyond cancer; Access to benefits advice and other sources of financial help; Signposting to local services such as counselling, complementary therapies, physical activity programmes and more; Access to practical help such as transport, help at home and travel insurance; An opportunity to discuss work related issues such as finding the words to speak to your employer, understanding your rights at work and what reasonable adjustments may enable you to remain in or return to work; Access to support programmes to help you cope with the effects of cancer both during and after treatment e.g. fatigue management workshops; Signposting to family support services. The service provides information and support over the phone or by email for those not able to access the services in person. If you are in the north coast area visit the Macmillan Information Area situated at the main entrance of Causeway Hospital, Coleraine. Macmillan staff and volunteers are present at various times throughout the week.

Living with cancer can be tough on your finances. You might not be able to earn in the same way. You’ll probably spend more on everyday costs like heating and getting around. And it’s hard knowing how to plan ahead. Too often, money worries just get out of control. But we’re here to help. Our benefits advisers can support you by working out the financial help you may be entitled to and helping you to access it. They have specialist knowledge of welfare benefits, tax credits and grants and can offer you up-to-date, invaluable advice. Working in partnership with Coventry Citizens Advice, we provide free telephone and digital benefits advice to people affected by cancer, including carers and families. The service provides confidential support to anyone wanting to discuss how cancer is affecting their life. This can be by telephone, at an appointment in St John’s Information and Support Centre or Doncaster Royal Infirmary ‘Hospital Macmillan Information Centre (POD)’ or a home visit can be arranged, if appropriate. We provide referrals to a number of local services and support including benefits assessments, counselling service, and social care teams. The Macmillan Pod houses a range of information materials and these can be posted out or people can call in and browse the booklets themselves in the main out-patients department at Doncaster Royal Infirmary e.g. diet, managing fatigue, treatment. A member of the team will be available to support if needed, during the normal working day. Referrals can be made by health and social care professionals or patients, family members or friends can self-refer by telephone or email.

This is a new service for everyone with a diagnosis of cancer in your area. The cancer support worker can offer support for non-medical concerns you may have. Based on these concerns, the support worker will create a plan of care with you, and can signpost you to trusted information and services which may be helpful. The cancer support worker is not a registered nurse, but works closely with your local Macmillan community cancer nurse specialist team. For clinical concerns, the support worker will have access to the healthcare team who are treating you and can connect you to this team if required.

Volunteers can provide once a week support and practical help at home with tasks such as shopping, running errands and/or general housework such as light ironing, vacuuming, or help with laundry. The little things that make a big difference. Our trained volunteers can also offer befriending service and occasional transport to activities or social meetings. The scheme is available in the Edinburgh and West Lothian area. The service offers support to people living with cancer and can operate week days, evenings and weekends.

Move More Edinburgh is a scheme to help you get and stay active. From gardening and walking groups to gentle movement and circuit classes, there is something for everyone. All the activities are free of charge and you’ll be with others who know what you are going through. Taking part in physical activity during and after cancer treatment can play a huge part in enabling you to take back control. It can help you prevent and manage some of the effects of treatment, such as fatigue, depression, muscle wasting and risks to your heart health.

Macmillan Butterfly Centre offers support to patients with cancer and their relatives, in a friendly, relaxing environment. The centre provides information, emotional support, the HOPE (Help with overcoming problems effectively) course to help people who have cancer to get on with their lives, complementary therapies, relaxation and confidential counselling. We also offer an image workshop which aims to give patients tips on clothing styles that suit, shopping tips, make-up tips, etc to help them gain confidence when they need it most. Most of our clients are referred by the Macmillan Team here in Fort William, however, you can just call us direct on 01397 709095. We work in partnership with Macmillan Cancer Support to offer income maximisation advice, casework and representation to anyone affected by cancer in Lochaber. Our Macmillan Benefits Adviser will establish your eligibility for, and advise you accordingly on, a wide range of benefits. It is important to remember that your circumstances may change more than once during your treatment so it is beneficial to get advice in advance so that you know what to expect and can plan accordingly. This applies to those who work as well as those who are employed and those who aren’t employed or have had to give up work due to ill-health. Befriending service which offers practical and emotional support to help people affected by cancer. The service will help identify the support most useful to the person in need, which may change over time. Activities could include: practical support such as helping with daily activities such as shopping, gardening and housework; emotional support such as listening and talking, we aim to provide a supportive relationship to help reduce feelings of isolation, offer reassurance and increase confidence. The service provides a volunteer for up to 2 hours per week over an agreed period dependant on the individuals needs and circumstances. Days and times can be arranged individually, and support offered is also tailored to suit the person but is also dependent on Volunteers ability and availability.

Cancer doesn't just affect your physical wellbeing it can affect every aspect of your life, from your emotions to your finances. However often people don't know where to turn for support. That is why Macmillan Cancer Support and Glasgow City Council have launched the Improving Cancer Journey Service. Our Service is here to help people affected by cancer get the support they need, whether it is financial, emotional or practical and can provide support over the telephone and by meeting face to face at Glasgow's major hospitals and other outreach locations.

You will find Macmillan @ Glasgow Libraries across the city so that you can access support and information in your community. We also have a dedicated space where you can find free, expert and easy to understand information about cancer. We offer a wide-ranging support service for people with cancer, their loved ones, carers and people who are bereaved. We work in partnership with Cancer Support Scotland so that free counselling and complementary therapies are provided in some libraries. The service provides patients,families,carers and staff access to information materials on various types of cancer, long term conditions and their treatment. The team can provide a listening ear and sign post you onto other support services such as benefits advice, a dedicated one-to-one support worker through Macmillan's Improving the Cancer Journey, or help to get active. Please visit us and see if we can offer you any assistance. We can also visit you in the ward.

When you've got cancer, you can sometimes struggle to get the information you need. Other times, you're overwhelmed with information and you can't take it all in. That's why Macmillan has worked with Gloucestershire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust to create this new Macmillan Information Hub. The Hub is a place to get information, support and signposting with the help of staff and trained volunteers, no matter what stage of the cancer journey you’re at. Whether its questions about treatment, help with signs and symptoms, finances, diet and exercise, or understanding what support networks there are available the Macmillan hub can help.
